I apologize,
If my lack of understanding made you uncomfortable.

I apologize,
If my personal attitudes and beliefs caught you off guard.

I apologize,
If you recognized that I was not listening the first time and it took me multiple times to get it.

I apologize,
If my ignorance made you closed off to all the reasons why I believed in what I believed.

I apologize,
For the lack of interest in your personal lifestyle choices.

I apologize,
For not showing up and showing you support in the same manner you always were for me.

I apologize,
If I made you feel like you could not communicate with me openly and honestly.

I apologize,
For saving face with my friends when you needed me to stand up for you when no one else would.

I apologize,
That you feel abandoned in situations where you needed a hand to hold when you felt alone.

I apologize,
For not protesting when your rights were violated, and no one else would advocate in your defense.

So, I apologize for everybody in the world who was once like me, who misunderstood who you were and what you could be. And for the things we refused to see because of what we believe, because now that I am in your seat, I can empathize with all of your feelings that I failed to see. So, now I take this moment in the darkness to genuinely sympathize with all of my people who are judged like me . . .
